Painting the Roses Red project was created as an assignment to create a promotional illustration with the use of the Starbucks coffee cup implemented in the background.

When figuring out ideas, I remembered the scene in Alice in Wonderland where she first steps foot into the Queen of Hearts’ hedge maze and sees the playing card guards painting the white roses into red roses. With the idea in mind, I came up with implementing the coffee cup as one of the rose bushes, and to imply the logo in the middle of the cup, I made Alice hold a white rose in the foreground to represent the center of the cup.

Originally this illustration was made before my Meeting the Cheshire Cat illustration which has an updated version of Alice. I later changed Alice’s hand in this illustration to be the new version.
