Unwanted company
This was created as an assignment to create an illustration with two words, the word that caught my eye was “owl fairy.”
When working on this illustration, it would’ve been cute to have it where it’s an owl fairy wanting to be friends with a Great Horned Owl who isn’t interested in making friends.
When creating the owl fairy design, I wanted to implement some parts to represent an owl. With the hair, I wanted it to have the colors to look like an owl feather. With her eyes, I made them wide and yellow the style of an owl with strong eyesight with eye makeup in the pattern of an owl’s face. When it came to the clothing, I wanted it to be made out of found items and used Disney’s Tinkerbell movie series as a base since all of the fairy characters used things such as flowers and leaves as clothing to fit their role. It was very tough since there aren’t a lot of references to a fairy using feathers as clothing material, so I thought to create kind of a cloak that’s made out of owl feathers. With the bottom half, I decided to make them into bird legs using Harpy references since they are creatures who have bird legs as the bottom half of their bodies. To add more to the legs, I also put orange leaves as ankle wraps
